January 29, 2026
We were invited to join Mentor Rotary at Taste of Auburn, the restaurant run by the Culinary Arts students at Auburn Career Center. We had a great buffet lunch of salad, salmon, kielbasa and cabbage, stuffed philly steak peppers, grilled vegetables and garlic toast and a blackberry coffee cake for dessert. The students did a great job and Dr. Galvan (Superintendent) spoke about the programs and improvements made in the past year at Auburn. It was a great change of pace to go to an off-site meeting.
The Culinary students who prepared and served our food. Other pictures can be found in the photo album, Taste of Auburn.

November 15, 2025

Today, at the Perry Outdoor YMCA a bench was donated in memory of our long time Rotarian Dr. Donald Lucker. For several months we have been collecting plastic film, and the hard work finally paid off in early October, we received a composite bench. We knew after Don's passing that the bench would be donated in his honor, we just didn't know where.

In early November, Dan Garry was approached by the parents of Sydney Brown, Brad (past Painesville Rotarian) and Becky Brown with an idea; because their daughter Sydney and Dr. Lucker were so close, why not place the bench near the tree that they planted in her memory at the Perry Outdoor Y. So the wheels were in motion and on Saturday November 15th the bench was placed. Dan will attach the memory plate at a later date, recognizing "Doc" and his 57 year contribution to the Painesville Rotary.

To avoid interfering with other Holiday parties, we decided to have our party in mid January. Fun was had by all, with great fellowship and food. We also had a white elephant gift exchange. There was lots of wine, some alcohol but boy did Pam and Chris flip over the O'Cedar spin mop. Pam stole it from Dick and then Chris stole it from Pam (they use to friends, but I guess "mop" before "top" buddy rules).
Chris will NOT let Pam have it.

Here are some pictures from the party. Those people who could not make it to the party were missed.

Others besides Chris went home with some great presents.
The food was excellent as always, more dinner like than our usual lunches. Beckie and Dan did a great job with the desserts.

February 10, 2026

Our speakers this week were Randy Brooks, Amie Gillespie, and Angelica Gill from Koinonia Camp and Conference Center. Koinonia Camp is a ministry dedicated to changing lives through camping activities. It's for the purpose of sharing and teaching the love of Jesus Christ, through the use of the outdoor environment, and with dedicated leadership, they are committed to providing a safe and friendly place for the spiritual, physical and mental development of youth and adults.

Randy spoke first about how they accomplish some of the camp goals with campers. He demonstrated a rope trick with Stu and Dan, that caused frustration. They had to try to figure out how to get their ropes apart from each other. This activity is to illustrate and talk about how to handle frustration and getting the information to get out of a frustrating situation. Randy shows the campers how to get out of the bind and thus allows for great conversation about handling difficult situations.

Amie has been involved with Koinonia Camp since she was a young child. Koinonia provides summer camps for youth from kindergarten to high school and adult special person camps. The campers are provided the opportunities to swim, hike, stay in cabins, ride horses, pet animals, and have experiences that they may never have had prior to coming to camp. One thing that they ask all campers to do is not bring any kind of electronics, they literally unplug for a week.

Koinonia Camp is open all year long not just for summer camps. On the first and third Tuesday of every month they host "Grumpy Old Men". The men come to help work on projects. They have breakfast, then work on projects, and end the day with a great lunch. They also have the program S.W.A.T. Saturdays. It stands for Servants, working all together. It is a chance for families and friends to serve the camp in many different ways but the goal is to help the camp continue to run and complete new projects. The program runs from 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM and ends with lunch.

Koinonia recently added Angelica to their staff. She began her life at camp as a volunteer and now she recently became an occupational therapist and certified therapeutic riding instructor and she trained in hippotherapy (the use of movement of a horse for physical, occupational, and speech therapy) and began working with others at the camp. She is excited to use her training to expand the horse program at Camp Koinonia. She works with riders in the Koinonia Development Center on Adaptive Riding which is a program for riders with special needs. The riders learn horsemanship, grooming riding and games. The benefits for these riders are many, but a few are improved core strength, better muscle tone and flexibility, boost self esteem, promotes problem solving skills, engages multiple senses, and many more!
Angelica Gill, Amie Gillespie, and Randy Brooks from Koinonia Camp and Conference Center.

The camp is looking for volunteers every Tuesday and Saturday to walk next to horses while adaptive riding is going on in the development center. In the springtime they have their Duck Race and Bar-B-Que Auction. This is a big fundraiser for the camp and there is a cost to buy a duck, eat bar-b-que, and participate in the auctions. This year it will take place on May 2nd, duck race at 1:00 and dinner at 4:30. In the fall they have Koinonia Carnival which is a fun filled day completely free to the participants. Everything that the camp has to offer is open to the public and families are encouraged to come and enjoy the fun. This year it will be held October 3 from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM.
There are many opportunities for volunteers and activities if you are interested, visit their website        at https://www.christiancampohio.org/

Dan has a great relationship with Koinonia Camp. Randy thanked the Painesville Rotary for all of their help to improve and keep Koinonia Camp and Conference Center running.

🙋🙋Guests/ Guest Speakers
We welcomed Randy, Amy, and Angelina from Camp Koinonia. Camp Koinonia Conference Center is a ministry dedicated to changing lives, and their presentation highlighted all the amazing experiences the camp offers—swimming, fishing, canoeing, horseback riding, paintball, hiking wooded trails, and so much more. It was a great reminder of the impact this special place has on everyone who visits.

🙏🙏Opening🙏🙏
🙏🙏Prayer -Dave Osborn led us in prayer with a bold doxology rendition. It was fierce. It was spunky. It got the job done. A powerful kickoff to the meeting.

Pledge of Allegiance –Dave McCall confidently and boldly led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, reminding us why service to our country and community matters.

SongThis week’s musical selection needed only one attempt (a Rotary miracle). Led by Stu, we sang “You Are My Sunshine.” With the sun shining and spring vibes in the air, it felt like the perfect choice—and honestly, we nailed it.

💸💸 Happy Bucks / Sad Bucks
• Dan gave a happy buck for Christy’s new flyer for the big event (blush).
• Bob followed up with a happy buck for Christy fixing up the flyer (aww—you guys ).
• Lisa shared a happy buck for skiing. Apparently someone told her and Patrick they’re “too old” to ski—clearly incorrect. These young bucks are just getting started. No hip replacements in sight.
• Anita gave a happy buck celebrating the credit union’s new logo and color change from blue to purple. She came bearing gifts—bags and pens—which were very hard to resist
• David McCall shared a big happy buck after finding his wallet—missing for six weeks! His wife had safely placed it where no one would take it... including them. Well played.
• Stu rounded things out with two happy bucks: one for the beautiful weather and another because he’s already sold 10 tickets. Well done!

Bob Fratino won the $16—wahoo!

Announcements📣📣 :(hot off the Painesville Rotary Press)

• Bob reminded us about our 100-Year Celebration coming up on April 25th. Sponsors and door prizes are still needed! This year’s diamond sponsors will be honored with diamonds placed on a wall—sparkle included.
• Stu announced that St. James Meal is next Tuesday, February 17th. Come help serve up some big, gooey, messy burgers (also known as sloppy joes).
• Dan delivered the rally cry of the day: SELL. SELL. SELL. Tickets are moving, baskets need themes (send them to Sue), and door prizes are up for grabs - Ask away—worst they can say is “no,” and then dramatically declare, “No door prize for you.”
• Lisa shared exciting updates from the Lake County History Center. Four events are coming up, and America 250 is off to a fantastic start.
o February 22nd: Come set up a table or booth
o March 21st: Lisa is celebrating a BIG birthday that ends in a “0”—everyone’s invited. The basement is newly remodeled, furniture TBD, but who needs couches when you’re dancing the night away?
